GRAND ENTRY HALL DOME AND CEILING

In this San Marino residence, the grand entry hall ceiling and dome are painted in a classically themed, old world style,
in keeping with the architectural character of the home and the artistic preference of the client. The clients wanted a mural that enhanced and enlivened the entrance to their house and included some personal notes. The three angels represent their three children. Favorite blooms and foliage are part of the garland. Rich drapery fabric is used throughout the home. The surrounding ceiling is painted with decorative moulding.

CATERING KITCHEN

This large catering kitchen is a converted garage on the Toluca Lake property of a television writer. To liven up the room when entertaining, the walls and cabinet doors are painted with images of actors, props, and scenes the writer especially enjoys. The floor to ceiling cabinets are painted to look as if the doors are open and famous movie characters are walking off the set. Smaller cabinets are painted as shelves with well known movie props. The mural on the longest wall depicts a working movie set with a faux backdrop that is a reproduction of the actual pool on the other side of the wall.

CALIFORNIA SCIENCE CENTER

Desert Environment, Fennel Fox Enclosure

The California Science Center is located in Exposition Park in Los Angeles. Among the many exhibits are ones exploring different ecosystems and the creatures that adapt to them. Some feature live animals. The Desert exhibit houses the Fennel, a small fox that inhabits the Sahara Desert. It lives in small groups in burrowed underground caves. I painted one in the forefront of the mural depicting this environment, which includes villages that grow up around oases. Some humans who inhabit the area adapt in a similar manner to the Fennel, building their homes below ground level. I included these images on the enclosure’s curved, 35 ft. wide wall.

THREE PANEL MURAL OF CALIFORNIA COAST

This triptych of the southern California coastal landscape was custom designed for a Craftsmen style home in San Clemente, CA. It is influenced by the California plein air painters of the early 20th century, particularly Miriam Wachtel. The center panel is based on her piece Laguna. Acrylic on muslin, 8'6" x 38.'

TROMPE L’OEIL WALL NICHES

These two trompe l'oeil wall niches, one housing an outsize wine bottle, the other a giant wine glass, are on the upper and lower landings of a narrow staircase descending to a home wine cellar. They provide drama and some humor in an otherwise uninteresting, constrained space. Each is 7' x 3', acrylic on muslin.

ONTARIO MILLS SHOPPING CENTER MURAL

This dome is part of an animatronics show at the Ontario Mills Shopping Center. Titled Bug's Eye View, the playful display presents a cartoon view of the plant world from an insect's perspective. Mechanized grass blades and flower stalks move up from the floor to the dome.

The dome is 80 feet in circumference. It is hand painted. Acrylic on plaster.

BISCUIT COMPANY LOFTS

To create a visual flow between the bedroom and bathroom in this Biscuit Company loft, muralist Lucy Jensen painted a swimming pool lane on either side of the window separating the two rooms. The watery image provides a satisfying counterpoint to the industrial character of this downtown Arts District building. Lucy Jensen Studio has been creating dynamic, custom mural designs for residential and commercial spaces since 1989.

LARGE MASTER BEDROOM

The resident of this large, ranch style home wanted her master bedroom to feel light and airy, as if she was floating. We painted a floor to ceiling sky with hints of sunrise colors in the clouds.

POSEIDON THEMED MURAL IN GRISAILLE

The powder room in this Malibu home is an example of making an elaborate vision work in a constrained space. The resident has a passion for Greek mythology, and loves dramatic presentation. To make this work in a small space, muralist Lucy Jensen created the four panel mural in a quiet grisaille, using a hue present in the existing marble fixtures. The grand scene is there, yet the room does not feel crowded.

2012 PASADENA SHOWCASE HOUSE

To enliven the powder room walls in the writer's retreat, Lucy Jensen Studio created a unique collage. Pages from novels and plays were used as a background, and treated with colored washes and shadowing. Superimposed on these were quotes from authors reflecting on their art form. The quote fom Leonardo DiVinci was written in reverse script, as DiVinci did to keep certain writings secret; they were legible only when viewed in a mirror.
